An illustrated Burmese study of old Arakanese coins, compiled from posts on the Ancient Myanmar blog. It argues that a British Museum coin read as King Niti Chandra's is wrongly identified, shows Vesali-period Chandra coins with bull and srivatsa symbols, and lists Mrauk-U kings from the 15th to 18th centuries with photos of their coins, many bearing Arabic or Persian script beside Arakanese. Pyu and Funan coins are shown for comparison, with sources such as The Coin Atlas.

Its six chapters cover the ancient cities of Arakan, the coming of Muslims and the Arakanese kings with Muslim names, Muslim ministers and officers at the Mrauk-U court, Muslim poets of Arakan who wrote in Bengali, and the Rohingya Muslims of Arakan, with maps, a bibliography and a note on the author.
A detailed history and political study of Arakan by Martin Smith, published by the Transnational Institute in Amsterdam in December 2019. It moves from the Arakan kingdom and British rule through the parliamentary era, Ne Win's rule, the SLORC-SPDC years and the Thein Sein government to the NLD period. Topics include the 2012 violence, Rakhine nationalism, armed groups such as the Arakan Army and ARSA, the Rohingya exodus and China's role, ending with a Rohingya postscript and conclusions.
A long history of the Rohingya written from a Rohingya point of view by A. F. K. Jilani, first published in December 1999, with a foreword by Edith Mirante. Its 42 chapters run from Arakan's geography, the Mrauk-U empire and Shah Shuja through British rule and independence to the Mayu Frontier Administration, citizenship law, Rohingya armed and political groups such as the RIF, RPF, RSO and ARNO, and the refugee crises of the 1990s. Appendices include Brigadier Aung Gyi's 1961 speech.
A collection of about 27 articles by the Rohingya writer Ahmedur Rahman Farooq, published in news media and gathered in Norway in November 2009, with forewords by Shwe Lu Maung and Habib Siddiqui. The articles cover persecution and abuses against the Rohingya in Arakan, Rohingya boat people and refugees in Bangladesh and Thailand, Burma's 2008 constitution and military rule, the 8888 and Saffron uprisings, Rohingya culture and population, and how world media report on the Rohingya.
A book by Aung Aung of Sittwe, dated December 2016, on the history of Arakan and the rights of the Rohingya. The first part covers the background history of Arakan, its language, and Buddhism and Islam there, and the author argues that the original people of Arakan were Indo-Aryan rather than Rakhine. The second part covers Rohingya heritage and language, Muslims at the royal courts of Mrauk-U, the 1982 Citizenship Law, the 1942 and 2012 violence and the Rakhine Commission, and the author argues that state policy is leading to genocide.
